The second-child syndrome is strong in this household. Our second-born, Zaylee, turned TWO on December 29th, and here I am just now writing about this. Granted, we were busy hosting, and then immediately left town soon after New Year’s, and then had snow days just after one day of school...

We celebrated Zaylee’s second birthday low-key but filled with family presence. Z’s second brother and his wife (Sheng and Alice), as well as my parents and my brother all came into town to spend the holidays with us. We are grateful for the long trip they made.

Very early on in Zaylee’s life were we told to never combine her birthday with the holidays. She might only be 2 years old, but she certainly understood that she was getting double in presents and that this day was really her day - her smile said it all.

Her cake was a blueberry yogurt cake from Paris Baguette. Blueberry is one of her favorite fruits. We didn’t have a particular theme for her this time, but her presents screamed ‘Elmo’ as currently Elmo/Sesame Street is her favorite character and show.

Our 2-year-old toddler loves:

  • Eating sweets and anything she can find in the pantry

  • Watching and finding Elmo

  • Being independent- rarely does she want to hold hands or get help

  • Wanting to do everything her big sister does

  • Saying 'hi' and 'bye' to everyone

  • Pretend playing in her kitchen

Happiest day for the youngest of our family! We love watching you grow and blossom into a happy and funny toddler! She is growing up so much faster than I imagined - slow down, time!
