I finally decided to deactivate my Facebook account. I’ve been an active user ever since Facebook launched, and, for the most part, enjoyed what Facebook had to offer. Despite rising privacy concerns, I tend to look at social media on a more positive light. When used for a good reason, I think it’s a great way to stay connected with family and friends (around the world).

Starting today, though, it had to stop. This country has certainly entered both politically and socially turbulent times since Trump began his presidency. While I will continue to refuse siding with one political affiliation over the other, I will say that President Trump’s demeanor and actions he put forth through recent executive orders have worried me to a great extent for some time as an immigrant and as a naturalized citizen a few years ago. While it’s true that he’s essentially delivering (in action) of what he has promised during the campaign, and for that reason gaining positive light by his supporters, it is of a great concern that he has not considered the magnitude this decision that would bring to the nation and our international relations.

I will continue to challenge myself, with an open mind and heart, to try to understand various points of views even if they won’t make much sense to me at times. I’m going to make every effort to not jump into conclusion about one’s character based on a single comment or opinion.

Overall, Facebook has become a toxic place to simply “share” without fear of repercussion. I look forward to having an open and constructive dialouge without emotions overtaking our judgements.

I am excited to seek some balance in my life by voluntarily removing myself from the harsh negativity and hate that are spewing in the world of Facebook.
