Weekends are when I typically try a new recipe because let’s be honest, who has time learning to cook new food when you get home at 6pm after working full day and your hubby is staring at you hungry?? Ok, for those of who are feminists, you will probably say, “let him take care of himself”, which is quite true, but I don’t cook at all when we host house parties, so it sort of kind of evens out (not really).

Anyway, tonkatsu was one of my favorite meals growing up in South Korea. Tonkatsu is technically from Japan, but it has become a staple menu in all Korean restaurants. I used to go for swimming lessons (more like forced), and my grandma would bribe me with this after practice so I don’t quit. I know I know, I was annoyingly spoiled. I grew out of that, I promise.

As I spend more time in the kitchen as years go by, I began to think why I ate out so many times when I could simply make them at home? Sure, I am no Gordon Ramsey, so I won’t be able to successfully replicate everything, but I might as well try. Last night I finally tackled making tonkatsu, cabbage salad, and tonkatsu sauce… all homemade. There are always some areas I can improve from the first try, but I would say it was a very successful attempt. Simply Google recipes for making tonkatsu and the sauce – you’ll have plenty of options to choose from and the steps are generally similar.

Looks like another menu I can add to my rotations! Bon Appetit.
