Our family affectionately calls June “Zoe’s Month.” Somehow, this lucky girl manages to have her birthday celebrated three times—once at school, again on her actual birthday with family, and finally with a big pool party that brings everyone together. It can feel like a marathon of events, especially with Z’s birthday on May 26th squeezed in between it all. But since birthdays are truly her favorite time of year, we’re always happy to join in the festivities.

I can’t believe Zoe, the girl who officially put me in my mom era, is now 7. Life has been fun, busy, and full of excitement for this freshly minted 7-year-old. First grade was packed with highs, sweet friendships, and an incredible teacher who guided her through her first year of lower school. The jump from kindergarten to first grade came with a steeper learning curve than expected, but she wrapped up the year saying, “I had the best year ever!”—and I hope every year feels like that for her.
At 6, Zoe filled her days with gymnastics, after-school art class, music lessons (voice and piano), and beginner cheer. Summer meant swim lessons to keep improving her skills while living her best life as a fish—or “mermaid,” as she calls herself. She performed in two recitals, took the stage in April for her school’s annual performance, and tackled two public speaking projects, showing courage despite the nerves.

She loves creating art, tumbling around the house, epic playdates, and being the best big sister to Zaylee. Sure, there are sisterly squabbles, but she adores her and shows such love and patience. She dressed as Rumi for Halloween, sang every K-Pop Demon Hunters song about a thousand times, and recently discovered Taylor Swift, happily singing along to her hits.
Travel-wise, Japan for spring break topped the list, followed by our annual Beaver Creek snowboarding trip and a couple of Texas road trips to meet friends.
This year’s birthday party theme was “adventure.” She wanted something with a sense of exploration, so with her idea, Z came up with duck hunting—like an Easter egg hunt, but with ducks. It was a huge hit, and everyone left with 8–9 playful, colorful ducks. Our go-to baker, Sugar and Spice, created an amazing jungle-inspired cake that tied the theme together perfectly.

I truly believe her life is extraordinary, and I hope she knows it, treasures it, and embraces it. Watching her grow into a smart, beautiful, observant, sweet, and determined girl is one of the greatest joys of my life.
